Student-led Physio Clinic for Neuro-Rehabilitation - University of Birmingham (2025)

In this out-patient clinic, our student physiotherapists can assess and treat patients with a neurological condition such as Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and brain injury who will benefit from a personalised rehabilitation programme, under the supervision of a qualified and experienced neuro-physiotherapist.

Your initial consultation will involve a thorough assessment, starting by taking a detailed case history to understand your individual needs and goals. This will be followed by a physical assessment which will include assessment of your range of movement, strength, sensation and function. Following your assessment, the team will recommend a treatment plan for your rehabilitation based on the assessment findings and your goals. This may include hands on treatment, exercise and advice. You will also be provided with information and education to support your progress and ability to self-manage your condition on discharge from the clinic. Please note, there may be times throughout the academic year when this clinic is closed due to term dates.

If you are interested in this service, please review our full acceptance criteria below. If you qualify for our rehabilitation service based on these criteria, please complete the referral process.

Our Facilities

Consultations will take place in our vibrant and welcoming MoveWell Centre that offers state-of-the-art facilities, including treatment bays, a cardiorespiratory suite, an exercise movement space and a strength and rehabilitation gym.

You will be greeted on arrival to the centre by a member of the team and are welcome to use our changing and shower facilities should you need to, before and/or after your appointment or session.

Our Students

Physiotherapy students are required to undertake 1000 hours of practical work placement experience as part of their degree. This provides the opportunity for them to put their learning into practice in preparation for the working world. Placements must be successfully completed for them to become qualified physiotherapists. By attending the clinic, you will be supporting the development of our future physiotherapists.
